"Don't worry, Windows users, you can have these features too. Probably about the time Microsoft gets Longhorn to market - about 2008 or so. Snicker, snicker.

I'm still using windows Me.... and probably will until Longhorn Comes out.

IMO, there is no finer OS than WinMe... (unless you're looking for stability, ease of use, expandability and security )

Ok, a bit of help for the thread then. With the release of OS X Panther there has been a lot of confusion about how to mount a windows shared drive so that you can access it without re-authenticating each and every time. The procedure is different for panther than it was for jaguar so i'll post it here for the 1 or 2 people that may find it useful.
Mac OS X Panther

How to connect to a SMB shared server without re-authenticating

(The server has to have a static IP Address for this tip to work, it will not work by using the share name).

1.___ From the desktop press apple + K to bring up the following dialogue box.

2.___ Type in the address of your server ie:

smb://192.168.1.1

press the + button to add the server to the list

3.___ Highlight the newly added server in the list and click Connect.

4.___ Type in your full user name and password, check the "add to keychain" option.

5.___ Choose the share to mount and click ok, this will mount the share on your desktop.

6.___ The share will now be represented by an icon on your desktop.

7.___ Open a finder window for your home directory. (apple + up arrow)

8.___ Drag the icon of the share from your desktop to the tool bar at the top of the open finder window.

9.___ Now whenever you open a finder window and click the icon in the toolbar thae share will mount without needing authentication.

There, a tip for OS X.
