I have tried Mandrake 7.2. Corel 2, SuSe 6.0 and Redhat 6.2
Redhat 6.2 runs much faster ( Mandrake was a slug) but, after installing RH 6.2 twice I still have the same problems. Unable to access PPP when logged in as regular user ( not root) and as root after dialing up and logging in to my ISP, Netscape cannot connect. No matter what URL it says it cannot find host. Did not have this problem with any other distribution. Any ideas for this Linux new guy? |

Hi c-hoppe,
I'm not that good with linux yet, but have you checked your user configuration? It sounds like you don't have permisson to use PPP. Perhaps the UID isn't checked? Did you setup a firewall? I know these are simple suggestions, but, they seem to be the ones that trip me up most of the time. RedHat 6.2 is faster than Mandrake and I like it better, but the kids like Mandrake better. It feels more like Windoze to them. Plus all the games makes them happy. Anything to get them to use it. Hope this gives you some ideas. OOPS!

OOps,
My kids had the same issues about the games. I think there are some of them available to download- once I learn how. I thought about the permissions but can't figure where ot go to check or change them. Do you know where and how? |

Hmm it sounds like your network information is incomplete, have u specified DNS information?
Firstly what are u using to connect? rp3 or kppp? http://www.redhat.com/support/manual...de/ch-ppp.html Should help you in getting it to work correctly. Make sure that ur users are allowed to use pppd .. userconf tool will help u configure it right. U can also use linuxconf & control panel here's information u can use: http://www.redhat.com/support/manual...sysconfig.html Hope u can work it out with this [Edited by Ex-Static-Cling on 01-22-2001 at 02:20 PM] |

Hi Again c-hoppe,
Sorry for not getting back faster, I've been a couple of hundred miles from home. Been at Cabela's sporting goods store. Would still be there, but SWMBO said it was time to go home ![]() ![]() Mr. 'Cling is right. Super links. He explains things better than I do. Hope you get it up and running! OOPS! |
