Unhappy Disc Eject on Mac OS X

Whenever I insert a disc into my powerbook G4, it immediately ejects after checking it for about a second. I've followed the steps under Not Accepting Media on this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88275 including resetting the PMU except to take it in to Apple to be fixed. Does anyone have any advice before I try and take it in?

AngryLawnGnome, did you get it fixed? Let us know if you did, and what it was that fixed it. This way if somebody else has a similar problem in the future, we can point them in the right direction.

Is the disc a format OS X will recognize? Try a different disc to see if it is accepted. Normally if it is a fomat issue you will get a message telling you so, so it's a long shot.

And I'm guessing you're not holding down the mouse button or the eject key while you insert the disc.?

I've certainly tried a number of different discs, they eject before they have a chance to be read for more that a second, im not holding down any buttons.
I haven't solved it andy, but you've got something coming if you ask me a question like that again.

Try resetting the pram on boot, also check you preference folder for anything CD or Burner software related and delete them, they will be replaced with the default when you restart.

Lol, I see we have been joined by a very polite Gnome this time.

anyway apple+option+p+r at boot should reset the pram, check the applecare for your particluar mac as this combo can change based on the model.
