Now, I have installed Redhat Linux 7.0 on my system. But everytime I startup the system, I need to use a startup disk in order to get Linux running. What I need to do so that I wont have to use startup disk anymore?
Thanks. |

Hi c-learner!
Are you running a dual-boot system? With some version of windoze 9x? If so you need to have lilo (linux loader) installed. It should have installed itself if it detected a Windoze partion or even seperate drive. If it ain't there somewhere you need to install it. Check under /root/boot directory I think. OOPS!

Hi OOPS,
I'm using System commander from PartitionCommander. At startup, it lets my select which OS I like to use. When I chose Linux, it gave me errors. If I use startup disk, then it fine. |

C-learner, what kind of errors are you having? Also, how is it setup on your HD as far as partitions? I use System Commander & it works fine.

hi mairving,
I used partition commander to add OS, the made a Linux partition. When I tried to boot it as the dual boot menu. the error is Possible Defective boot record THe selected OS appears to have a defective boot record. the normal boot signature is missing. some OS boot thru a DOS partition, like NT. If this is the case, select OK to return to the DOS selection menu. Do you know what causes that? |

You might try disabling System Commander. Run your install on Linux and load lilo. Then you should be able to move to Windows. Open up System Commander & re-enable it. Then it should recoginize your two OS's and give you your options. It does seem like I have had better luck this way than using the wizard in SC.
Re-enabling System Commander Also it is a good idea to disable any anti-virus program that you have. |
