Trashed Windows 2000 Partition
Alright, well here is the whole story, I installed Red-hat linux on my computer and now I am unable to boot windows 2000. Here is the problem, and also the place where I think I screwed up, I already had windows 2000 set to dual boot with Windows ME. Now I am able to boot ME, which is already screwed up, and not 2000.
The error that I am recieving is along the lines of "Windows cannot boot because it was not able to find (Windows 2000 root\system32\ntoskrnl.exe)" I assume that this means that it can'n find the 2000 loader on the MBR and therefore can't boot. How can I restore (or rebuild) the 2000 MBR. Thanks, Anthony |

I was able to fix the problem. What had happened is that after installing RH the partitions were changed and the NTFS partition (Windows 2000), was moved from Partition 2 to Partition 4, however the path in the boot.ini was not changed along with that, therefore it was not able to locate the "Windows 2000 root". So after a few attemps I was able to redirect the path to the correct partition and now here I am writing from Windows 2000.
I hope that this will also help someone else in the future. E-mail me if you have any questions... Anthony, frobro390@aol.com |
