Installing Linux on a USB drive
I just got a new motherboard and to my suprise it suports USB booting
. How exactly do I go about puting Mandrake linux on my USB hard drive?

I think you can just go about the installation as normal and select the usb drive to install to then you need to edit one file as outlined below.

I don't like useing boot loaders for dual booting because it takes longer to boot up and if you want to go into linux you have to sit there and wait for the bootloader to come up and then select it. I don't like to watch my computer boot up. If I put it on my usb drive I just have to switch on my USB hdd and then my computer.

OK, well have you tried that then? Is it a USB drive you made or you purchased?

I havn't had time yet, my 160GB HDD got corupted and I've spent the last day trying to get my data back. I made the usb hdd useing a 40GB sigate hdd and a coolmax bootable USB 2.0 hdd enclosure.

Then you might be best installing the drive then putting it in the casing, It just might work a bit better and be easier to install to, then do as they said in that link.
