you can download what you want here.

http://www.linuxiso.org/

be sure to do the mb5 test before you burn the cd's

suggest that you remove the partition that you created and leave the space as unallacted free disk space, as linux will auto install in this area for you and set up the dual boot.

er... what do you mean by this? currently have a partition space unused.

So if i download from http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=7 i only have to download RedHat Install Disk #1,#2,#3 only?

yes that is true, I have found that red hat will install real nice when you have free unallacted space on the hard drive, it will create its own partitions that it will need.

just remove the empty partition and leave it as free, unused, unpartition free space, linux will see this and install there, you should have at least 10 gig for this,
if you want to leave the partition there it will prompt you for the mount point and the root directory, this would cause a stumbly block for many first time users.

So now what i need to do is burn those file into 3 different disc? do i have to rename them or just leave them as eg. shrike-i386-disc1.iso?

you do not have to rename them, just burn the iso's to a cd with nero, well not really , burn the cd's useing the iso's, nero has the set-up for doing that, burn from the iso.
and then just put the first cd in the drive set to the boot device and go.

You don't need to rename the files when you download them, but naturally you want to label the CD you burn them to as Redhat or Mandrake O/S number and disk 1, 2, 3. In case you need them for future use. This way you know which which one is which. I don't know if this was clear in the instructions, but don't try and download the ISO's to CD. It takes a while to download and to many things can happen interrupting the download. Download to a file (I usually just download them to my desktop) once the file is on your computer, you can burn them to disk at your leisure. Since Linux is free you might want to DL both Mandrake and Redhat try each of them for a while and see whcih one you like best.

So how do i start installation after i have burnt them?
Do i install it through WINXP, or boot it using the disc to install?

Set your bios to CD as frist boot device. Then put the first CD in the CD player and restart the computer. The program will tell you when to insert the second CD.

Karnevil9,
My boot priority has always been CD as first. But it just can't boot into the CD when it restarts. It just boot into WINXP o.o

Hmm.. or did i burnt it wrongly?
I saw shrike-i386-disc1.iso as the ONLY single file inside CD drive for my DISC 1

You want to burn it to CD as an ISO image. Don't burn it as a data disk. Also go back to LinuxISO and read the link "How to Check Md5 sums on ISO disk. It will guide you on how to check your file to make sure everything downloaded correctly.

Unhappy

How do i burn a ISO image then? i am using Nero - Burning Rom.
It starts with the wizard. So is it right that i choose CD> Compile a new CD> Other CD formats> Create a CD from an image file? (This is through the wizard.)

If i don't use the wizard, is it right that i choose File> Burn image?

I use Nero to burn my disks. Don't have it on this computer to read it exactly but the last option is to burn a file or saved image. When it opens the list of files, click on the file type at bottom of screen and select iso files. If you are not using Nero you will have to find the proper option for your CD burning software.

Once the CD's are burned the installation should take about 45 minutes to an hour. You have to sit with it because it will ask you questions in regards to your hardware along the way. I have to go now. I will check back later to see if it went OK. Good Luck.

Do you have any free space on the hard drive.? If you do, then select it for your partition. Is drive G on a different hard drive or is it a parition on a single drive? If there is a problem with the install no problem, just stop where you are and reboot the computer with the disk in and she will start from scratch. And yes the redhat is GUI anyway, so no problem there.

If you can't boot even from the CD try this. Turn off the computer and then turn off the power completely from PSU. If the PSU doesn't have a switch unplug it. This happened to me twice while messing with Linux and I always managed to get my system back. You may have to try a few things but eventually you will.

For reasons that are beyond me, my computer would not let me back to this link. Installing Linux is not going to cause you psu to fry. If it is indeed fried, it must be caused by something else. Do you have another PSU to try?

I guess something went wrong.. It might be the PSU. Cos it just can't power up! I don't have an extra PSU to test on. So i think i will better send for a repair! Anyway, Thanks!
