Best source for learning Linux?
I'm interested to learning Linux and was wondering if anyone has a good source for learning the OS? I found one program called Hello Linux at: http://www.lancom-tech.com/. For $100.00 it says it's a complete hands on training program and includes install disks as well as tutorials. Would appreciate any advise. Thanks.

I think the book is a little outdated, (redhat 8), so you may want to look at other sources first. You may first want to look at what type of linux system you would be interested in using, and learning. Redhat, now fedora uses an RPM package management system, as does Mandrake and some others, while Debian based systems use apt-get package management. Slackware based systems use portage. The differences are not that great but they are there. There are lots of places on the web that can help you learn linux. www.linuxquestions.org and www.justlinux.org are two good ones. You can also search websites and Amazon for books on linux. Read the reviews to see which ones are the best rated.
Try this site, www.easylinuxcds.com for some learning programs. Last edited by Karnevil9; 03-16-2004 at 01:05 AM. |

This is one of the best linux books I've read as of late.
