Since I installed redhat without a modem installed in the pc,if I install one to try and make some kind of connection to my isp which is aol, will the modem be detected and installed when I boot up after installing or is there something I have to do?and can I use netscape to hook to a aol server like I use on my other machine running windows? Thanks mike

I dont think you can connect to aol using linux,or so I've heard. But if you want to try:
Get a hardware modem(any external one should work or get a Supra Express ISA )install it,and before you boot Linux, enter your bios setup and disable plug and play. During boot it should look for new hardware and the Kudzu program will tell you what you added.Check the appropriate options and go to Linuxconf and setup your modem. The rest is tricky because you need the ip adresses and the name of the domain name server at aol. You set up your ppp app.(I use kppp, its easy) and,in theory, you should be set.HTH lynch |

There are workarounds to getting the most annoying thing known to man work for Linux .. AOL for Linux...
http://www.techpages.com/linux.htm Basically the general opinion is that an AOL user has no use for Linux and vice versa. |
