Is there a way to change the boot order in LILO?
My current order is this: linux linux-nonfb failsafe windows floppy I'd like to have Windows as the first one in the list, I really don't use Linux much and hate to be always hitting the down arrow key and then Enter to select Windows. TIA for any input. EDIT: BTW I am using Mandrake 9.2 with KDE.

You can do that by editing the file lilo.conf. To read up on this topic, open a terminal window and type man lilo.conf at the prompt.

default=linux and change it to default=windows Save the file, then run the command: /sbin/lilo -v EDIT: read man lilo.conf as pillainp suggested and be careful, if you do something wrong lilo may not be able to boot again. Last edited by aym; 03-21-2004 at 05:48 AM. |

Nuk is now scared
Is there a way to backup LILO, like one can do with the boot.ini in Windows, just in case something goes wrong? |

In case something goes wrong, you can boot using a Linux CD, and restore the old lilo.conf file. Not sure if Mandrake CD boots in repair mode, just make sure you have a bootable Linux CD that mounts the hard disk partitions and allows you to copy files. |

have you considered using GRUB?
Not all distros put the config file in the same place. try /boot, or /etc. you could use the locate command locate lilo.conf
