deleting linux
how do i delete linux (suse), im having real trouble with the boot loader and ive decided to have away with it. im using windows xp home edition along with it. the problem i encounter is when i turn my computer off and then on again nothing happens, it tries to boot and just has the code l and then a load of 4's and 0's. so to get xp on i have to boot with the cd and choose repair installation and repair the boot loader and that takes ages and will only work for 1 boot up.

Load the windows XP CD and when it gets to the section to install XP or repair an already installed system, choose repair. I am not sure, never having to do it, but I think it gives you the option to fix the partitions. I've always tried to use Partition magic when i wanted to remove something and reformat the hardrive. If you need to just get your XP boot back, choose F2 during the XP boot process and when the list of commands comes up select fixmbr.

I've just removed linux from one of my hard drives, and ran into same problem, all I did was boot from my W2K cd and ran recover console's fixboot and fixmbr commands. although it took a couple of attempts to fix the boot record, now I have a empty hard drive to try out Debian on.

You should be able to remove the linux partition with PM and things should be back to normal. If not you may have to repair the MBR using MikeL instructions.

Using PM will remove linux, but I think you are going to have problems with the MBR at boot up, and end using the recovery console to clean that up.

No, you need to format first, then make your repairs...
