Mandrake Linux install problems

I last posted a month or so ago about which distro of linux to get.I finally got Mandrake Discovery 9.2.I have a dell 8100 with 1.3 gig hd,256mb ram, windows me.I got some config errors during install dual OS.I rebooted and get the OS selection then get the black login screen.I type in my user name then it asks me for a password even though I didnt set it up to have one.Thankfully I can still access the windows OS.

your hard drive is way to small for that, you need at least 5 gig just for linux to load everything it has.

Okay, well, you didn't setup linux correctly, It needs passwords. It's not like windows. That's why its more secure. Re-install it and follow the instructions, linux is a whole new world...

The easiest way to fix your problem is to reinstall, It won't be the last time, trust me... Linux is everchanging, you'll be upgrading more often than windoze. That's the fun though. Most of the time, if you mess up an install, just install again and try again. The Partiion is already there so it will recognize it. Nothing to worry about. That's the chance you take if your dual booting.

I tried to reload again and I had the same problem.Maybe 40 gig hard drive isnt big enough for windows and linux.I deleted windows after that and did a full Linux install and it worked !I only had 1 hour with it though .I cant get my full color choices with the driver for my HP 5150.Any ideas why?Should I download a different driver from somewhere? Thanks !

Don't know about the printer, you can look. I'm glad it worked for you. You know that if you want to reinstall windows you'll have to reinstall linux again... Catch 22 my friend. That 40 gig is plenty, I dual booted a 20 gig, for that matter you could probably dual boot a 10 gig... Keep playing, no one can really tell you what really works. Every machine acts differently with linux. It all depends on your hardware, sometimes the best hardware is the old stuff, that drivers have been written for. Sometimes you can go to old and it doesn't load at all. That's all part of the experience...
