uninstalling red hat 9 on a win xp duel boot

can anyone help me please...here is my problem...i have a machine with win xp,and red hat 9,they duel boot,i would like to get rid of red hat..how can i do this? i read that i can boot with the win xp cd,and run the recovery councel,and use the command..fixmbr....is this right? i played with it last nite,and i got a message saying that windows detected a non windows boot record,should i continue?....what happens when using the fixmbr command does not work? does it wipe out your system or what?...if anyone can help me i'd appreciate it they can email me at gsoileau@varco.com

that would be the linux partition and yes thats the one you want to remove

you already have xp installed, you want to remove the non dos partition that has linux on it first.
it can be done with partition magic very easly .

ok,here is my situation....
i have pent 4 3.06
with 2 hard drives
my big hd has win xp pro
my little hd has red hat 9.0
it does a duel boot,it gives me the option to boot to win xp or linux.
i want to have just xp on my machine.
i tried taking off the linux drive,but than i get a message saying the ntldr is missing.
i was thinking about using the win xp boot disk that the recovery counsol and using the fixmbr command...
if i use this ,what i'm woundering is will it fix itself after i tell it yes,or do i have to do anything,and if it does not work,what happens....do i lose everything on my pc...and by the way...thanks for the replys...

fixmbr will rewrite your master boot record, you will need to format the drive with Red Hat on it.

Use the XP disk to repair your installation then type fixmbr

You may be able to use the disk management feature on XP

If not then use a win98 boot disk, and type format X: /s ( X being the letter of your Red Hat drive)

ok,thanks for the info....as far as the drive with the red hat,that's not a problem to fix,my main concern was my xp drive,but you have given me good info and i thank you for that....i have another question you may know how to answer....i use msconfig to edit my configuration on my pc can you tell me how to get rid of the lines in msconfig that i am not using?...

most of entries can be found in the registry under the following

Start > Run > regedit
when regedit opens be safe and backup of the registry

then drill down through the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
then in the right panel look for the programs you want remove, then right click and select delete.
