eMachines T1842 & Fedora

I would like someone with Fedora installed on an eMachines T1842 computer to tell me how you solved this problem:

As this PC comes with a Conexant softk56 HSF (churchill) Moden (winmodem),

I need to know, what Modem Driver did you use, and How did you install/configure it?

Since there Are drivers out there for this modem, I assume at least one person got it to work! *grin*

I cannot use the free 14.4 modem Linuxant offers.
I cannot purchase the Linuxant driver for 14 dollars.
I cannot afford to purchase another modem.

Also, do I have to recompile anything? If so, How? I have no clue as I am new to linux.
Hopefull you will tell me I won't have to recompile, but if thats what it takes to make this modem work, i'm willin to learn.

Thanks!
John

Welcome to PC Mechanic JohnPhoenix, I think your going to have a real hard time trying to get your winmodem to work on linux. I see you posted your modem question on linuxquestions, and got no reply, that isn't a good sign for finding drivers, there are some serious linux gurus over there.

Not sure if will help you out, but it might send you in the right direction

Thanks Mike.

Yeah, I have already seen that site.

I cant afford the driver from Linuxant
I cant afford a new modem

My thoughts are this, someone with this model computer and modem will have perhaps the old driver from Linuxant before they started charging for it. They will be nice enough to mail it to me and tell me how they installed it and configured it.

It's my only hope :-(

(reminds me of starwars, help me obi wan, your my only hope - Use the Linux Luke- Penguin Power!) hehe

Thanks - John

Have you look on source forge or news groups for drivers, like you said someone must have the same problem, or found a fix for this modem.

good luck

Mike
