Linux Newbee

Hi.
I just downloaded the KNOPPIX version of Linux.
When i put in the disk will KNOPPIX load up without having to install anything. Also will my XP pro install be effected?

I chose KNOPPIX beacuse i hear it is user friendly and can be ran of the disk.

I have only one Hard drive.

Thanks

You need to set your bios to boot from CD as first device. Then save and exit and put the CD in while it boots back up. The Knoppix CD will run Knoppix right from the CD without being installed on your hard drive unless you want it to. When you are done remove the CD and it will be as if it was never there. Nothing will be affected.

When you first boot the cd you will see a boot prompt at the bottom of the screen. Try typing w/o quotes "knoppix nousb" and hit the Enter key. That works for some people. If that doesn't work, the only other thin I can suggest is getting a usb/ps2 adapter.

USB devices tend to be a problem with all linux systems. Linux knows the device is there but you have to tell it what drivers to use at times. Try kilgoretrouts suggestions. The USB/PS2 adapters are inexpensive if you need to go that route until you can configure the system from the inside. You can also go to.

I hope your not using a wireless system.

Did you set up the internet from the "start" menu, (the" K" on the bottom left of your screen)

Try this site.
