I got into a little discussion about unix with someone, and they said something I just couldn't figure out. They said the commands biff, mesg, finger, and whois were somehow related, yet when I asked him, he couldn't really explain it. Are they really related, or was he just pulling things out of thin air?
I could be wrong, being not that fully versed in the ways of unix.

finger is used for finding out information about a user from a server, whois identifies a user by user id, the biff command controls mail notification during a session, the mesg command controls whether you can recieve messages from other users on the system. all but the biff have something to do with users.
