Installed 2.6.5 kernel with problems. RH9.
Im trying to install a 2.6 kernel again on RedHat 9. I knew how to install it from last time I tried, but when it booted up, i got a load of errors, like couldn't initialize USB drivers, and network stuff. Someone help me configure these problems? So far I read that RH9 is not 2.6 ready, is this the problem, or is ther a workaround?

Did you do the necessary updates before you put in the new kernel? It is a widely documented issue (google it) that Redhat 9 out of the box and kernel 2.6 will not work, the good news being that you have the exact same errors everyone else did.
There are issues with USB, sound, some wifi modules, sysfs, QMmodules, rpm, APM and ACPI and others. But it is also widely documented as to the upgrade paths: You should upgrade your modules that involves a new modprobe, insmod etc. You need to install the new module-init-tools . . Actually here's a good reference page that summarizes all the issues: http://thomer.com/linux/migrate-to-2.6.html |
