I have a windows machine connnected to a Mandrake 7.2 box that is sharing its internet connection and is running Apache for internal use only.

Using the Windows machine, when I try to access a page in the directory where the .htaccess file is, I get the generic "403" IE page --- not a prompt for username/password.

I think there is something wrong in the Global Access Configuration area of my httpd.conf file, namely the AllowOverride settings, but whatever I try it still won't work. arrrrrggg

Any clues? TIA

( I rewrote the message to make it clearer )
