Linux with 2 hdds

I'm going to install Fedora on my main computer because I had to put windows back on my laptop and there isn't enough space for a dual boot.
Windows is install on my 36gig raptor and I want to install fedora on a 40gb ide hdd. I figured the easiest thing to do would be to make the 40gig the boot hdd so I don't risk messing up my windows installation.
Will fedora find my windows installation when it sets up the boot loader, or will I need to install sata drivers like windows?

The computer I'm going to install it on is the first one in my sig.

I'm not sure if what your suggesting would be possible, but I'm nearly positive it wouldn't be plug and play... I'm almost completely sure you'd run into headaches booting to IDE and trying to configure the SATA as a slave... If you figure it out, bravo! However you wouldn't "mess up" your windows installation installing linux on the IDE 40 gig. I have a similar configuration on a box. Windows XP is on the primary master,in my case /dev/hda. I have a raid controller with slackware loaded on the first IDE channel (/dev/hde) and Gentoo loaded on the second IDE channel (/dev/hdg). I used Slackware to load LILO into the Master Boot Record of /dev/hda, with all 3 OS's as choices. In lilo.conf I had to specify boot=/dev/hda in the global section, and root=/dev/hde and root=/dev/hdg for slackware and gentoo respectively. Even if **** hits the fan with LILO or GRUB, you can always use a windows boot disk and type fdisk /mbr at the prompt to restore the windows XP MBR and try, try again. There really isn't much danger of messing up windows itself since you aren't doing any partitioning.

its not that I wanted to slave them. I just wanted to make sure the installation would see the windows installation on the sata drive without needing drivers like windows does.
I'm going to go and try it now.

One more thing. Is installing a second linux for a triple boot easy? Is there anything else I need to do or is it just like a regular install?

Just like a regular install, all you need to do is edit your boot loader to tell it where to find the other install. Google "lilo how-to" or "grub how-to" based on which one you use.

The install went smooth, my raptor was detected as hde and mandrake did a good job configuring lilo this time. Only problem I had was that I couldn't install fedora C2, it would just reboot when I hit enter to install. I know the media is good, and I tried it in my cd-rom and dvd-rom drives. Anyone know why it wouldn't work?
