Put computer icon on desktop

I was just looking through the KDE screenshots and I saw a lot with a Computer icon on the desktop. I wanted to know how to do this so it would act like the My Computer icon in Windows, so instead of having the drives appear on the desktop when there mounted they are in there instead. Just so you know, I don't mean the Home icon.

Thanks in advance

Well, the file system type is completely different then windows, so u cant realy have a My Computer, even if u did (like shown in Lindows, and Knoppix) u can see everything but u have to been in root to do anything, Its a safety issue, u dont want a regular user (or cracker) to get into ur system (while ur in root) and mess with ur stuff, with free control and access to anything. But to make it feel more like the My Computer icon, go download the Computer icon off the internet and replace ur Home Dir. icon. Thats (i think) as close as u can get to a windows equivlent to windows My Computer. If u absolutely have to have a My Computer, go get urself a copy of Knoppix or Lindows and install that. youll almost get ur My Compter.

I updated to SuSE 9.1 with KDE 3.2 and it showed up on my desktop. Works a lot like the My Computer in Windows.

the file is located /home/username/Desktop and links to drives:/

I don't know if that helps or not

Upgrading to gnome 2.6 also gives you the computer icon.

Dswissmiss, how do you like Gnome 2.6? I installed it and I am now having a problem reading my icons/menus. Everything is printed real small.

I like it! I haven't used linux for that long so I can't really tell how much different it is than 2.4, with the exception of the spatial file manager. I turned if off at first, but I'm getting used to it right now.
I'm not sure about your fonts, are they just small or are they also ugly? Maybe the file path to freetype got screwed up or something in xfree or xorg.conf

Not sure if it will help, but klick on the Applications bar and go to Desktop Preferences, you should see a Font button... you could play around with that.
If not just post your problem in a new topic and explain if you upgraded anything else that might have caused the problem, I'm sure someone has the answer.

Take care
Dswissmiss

Come with what? The computer icon is just there so you don't have to go into /mnt everytime, freetype comes with the "easy" distros like mandkrake, suse and fedora (I think), but you still have to download them for debian, gentoo and slackware.
Btw, linux is in my opinion moving very fast ahead, so any new and stable version of anything is worth the upgrade, like how alsa comes with kernel 2.6, and window managers and gui's are always getting better.

My fonts under Gnome are too small to be readable. Everything shows up as a small line. I have to figure out a way to play with the configuration without starting Gnome.
