Safari 4

I just wanted to give my two cents about the official release of Safari 4. In short, it runs like a champ. I've been running the beta version since its release, and it has been a toss up at best. The top sites feature was kind of a novelty, but the bookmark features were a complete hit. Organizing and finding my bookmarked sites was a cinch. The cover-flow preview was a bit choppy when you opened it (and this is with four gigs of ram), but that was easily overlooked. The beta was definitely not as quick as the latest 3.x version, and I noticed some memory leaks and slowdowns.

But, after downloading the finished version today I've been impressed. Everything is quick to load, even the cover-flow and websites. ESPN, NyTimes, CNN; everything opens and loads screamingly fast, and scrolls well to boot. Some ads have caused some choppy scrolling, but those problems could easily be due to specific site coding. Even editing and posting on the forums has become slick - text loads in a subtle slide-in effect (definitely not overdone), and editing posts doesn't even seem to require a reload (if it does then it's very fast).

Also you can drag and rearrange tabs, a lacking feature that bugged me to no end in the beta. Dropping the tabs from the top to right under the address and bookmarks bars is for the best - in the beta I would accidentally drag the entire window every time I tried to click a tab.

So, good news all the way around in my book (as long as a memory leak doesn't crop up, then I'm going to be angry). Way to go Apple!
