Zip file won't unzip
I run osx 10.6.4 on an iMac. Because of a hard disk crash, I had to reinstall my software. I had backups of most everything, but shuffling data around and about resulted somehow in the loss of my Reunion database file (the file with all my genealogical records). I scanned my backup disks with Rescuepro and recovered a file titled 00.107.tar.z, which I believe might be the file I'm looking for. When I want to unzip it, however, I receive the following message from "Archive utility": "unable to unarchive "00.107.tar.z" into "recovered" (=the directory in which I saved the recovered files). Error 1 - operation not permitted." I've checked the permissions, they're good. Can somebody please help me sort this thing out?

Are you trying to unzip it from a CD/DVD? It might be trying to extract it to the CD/DVD. Try copying it to the drive.
If that doesn't work, try this: The Unarchiver
