Only way to increase the upload is buy a different package from Comcast. Lots more money. The Commercial Package they offer is 4000 down and 400 up (I think), but the price is something like $100 per month compared to $42 for the residential package like you have. BTW, that's the same speeds I run.

That's how these companies make money - they sell bandwidth. And you discovered one of the drawbacks to dsl. The farther you are from a hub the lower the speeds they will guarantee.

The upload cap is to prevent you from running servers. As per their Acceptable Use Policy:
Prohibited Uses and Activities Prohibited uses include, but are not limited to, using the Service, Customer Equipment, or the Comcast Equipment to: (xiv) run programs, equipment, or servers from the Premises that provide network content or any other services to anyone outside of your Premises LAN (Local Area Network), also commonly referred to as public services or servers. Examples of prohibited services and servers include, but are not limited to, e-mail, Web hosting, file sharing, and proxy services and servers. ------------------------------------------------- DLS is shared bandwidth - they only *guarantee* 256k each way. There are 39 other customers running off that 10 meg tower. Q. I have DLS Platinum package. Does this mean that I will always be getting 10Mbps uploads and downloads ? A. No. This is a common misperception. Since wireless connectivity is shared among many customers it is theoretically impossible to provide maximum speed guarantees as opposed to a dedicated circuit such as T-1 or T-3. DLS wireless service only provides Minimum speed guarantee of 256kbps. Maximum speed will depend on a number of factors such as: Overall user activity on the tower Type of equipment utilized for service (in cases when line of sight is obstructed DLS uses equipment with maximum speeds up to 1.5Mbps). Signal Strength. This means that: Customers with equipment capable of 10Mbps service may opt to choose lower speed packages which are rate limited by DLS. Customers with equipment capable of lower speeds (usually due to obstructed line-of-sight) may opt to choose high speed packages to ensure that their upstream speeds are not artificially limited by DLS even if their maximum possible downstream speed cannot reach its full potential due physical limitations of technology. Also read their wireless fair usage policy: http://www.dls.net/about/wfup.phtml Excerpts: DLS maintains a minimum of 256kbps allocated for each customer. While customers will often experience speeds much faster than 256kbps, any speed over 256kbps is not guaranteed. When excess bandwidth is available, customers will experience speeds faster than what is allocated, up to 1.5mbps (or 10mbps depending on equipment installed.) This bandwidth may only be used for reasonable amounts of time necessary to complete retrieval of e-mail, web pages, Usenet articles, etc. Continuously using more than the bandwidth allocated to download large files, send large e-mails, or watch high-bandwidth video streams for long periods of time is not acceptable and may affect the performance of other wireless customers. DLS may take action against customers capitalizing on available bandwidth as defined below. Residential DLS wireless subscribers may not use their wireless connections to run programs or servers that provide network content or connectivity to any 3rd party not at the location where the connection is installed. Examples of prohibited programs include, but are not limited to, mail, FTP, HTTP, game, newsgroup, proxy, and IRC servers. DLS reminds its customers that illegally distributing copyrighted material over any medium is against U.S. law. Customers determined to be in violation of this policy may have service suspended or bandwidth limited as the individual case warrants. Repeat offenders may be fined and/or have service suspended or terminated as DLS sees fit. ---------------------------------------------------- My advice? Stick with Comcast or get a T1 (break out your wallet). Comcast does not routinely monitor for violations - DLS does. I know this - I know someone who used to work for DLS.
