Newest ZAPro still having problems.

Privacy features not working correctly:
It doesn't see my cookies, popups still occuring.

Unstable.
Loses my Network info.

How does the paid version of Sygate compare to the paid version of ZA(Pro)? Memory usage?
I may switch.

I can't believe it.
I actually had a backup of the Pro version of 4.5.594, and all is working pretty much flawlessly now; no wierd cpu usage, privacy working like it should, zone info not being lost.

The GUI isn't as refined, and i miss a couple of the added features in 5.x, but there is no way I'm upgrading again until the above is fixed in later versions.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I hope Zonelabs comes through... i paid for this stuff.

(5.0.590.043 is still flakey, whether they fixed the Norton AV issues or not...)

[edit]
oh yeah, one of the bigger fixes going back has lent me:
IE isn't broken anymore, lol.

I have had this same problem and I uninstalled ZAPro and I am now using just the XP Professional Firewall. I would like to know if I install the ZA 45.594.000.exe will there be a conflict with the XP Firewall? Should I disconnect the XP Firewall after or before installing ZA 45.594.000.exe.

I assume you mean 4.x. I've run them both at the same time and didn't notice anything strange, but turned off XP Pro's firewall anyway to avoid any "possible" conflicts.

My personal run in with ZA 5.0 was when I couldn't defrag my MFT anymore under XP. Diskeeper can do this but has to run in the special mode that chkdsk runs if the hard disk is locked (you reboot and it gets to some half graphical/half text mode). chkdsk also failed to run in this mode, which made fixing errors on my Windows drive impossible. The problem was that ZA 5.0 has a special driver that prevents programs like Diskeeper and Chkdsk from locking the hard disk for their exclusive use. I'm sure there are other problems but that was enough for me to revert to 4.5.

Ever wonder why more than half the reviews on sites that allow public feedback are zone alarm horror stories?

Avoid Alarmingly bad software: don't use Zone Alarm.

Use: Outpost (Pro)

I've been using ZA since it's early days and it's a good program. All software has "issues" from time to time. Heck, I bet you're using Windows!! And look at all the bad feedback it gets.

I don't read or trust "public feedback" as it is too easy for a competitor to bad talk another's product.

As I've stated in other threads, ZA will no doubt fix any issues, if they haven't already, with 5.0.x. In the mean time, my 4.x is running just fine.

I'm going back to the old version. The latest 5.x version is still very buggy.

Hi all,
I've used ZA from its' start. I got to V4.5 & left it there despite the numerous prompts to upgrade. Eventually I rebuilt this PC back in August or so and decided to try ZA 5. The version I'm now using is 5.1.011.000 to give it its' full title . There is a 5.1.033 upgrade which I have yet to run.

Thankfully I have never had any probs with ZA. It would always pop up with someone or other trying to hack my PC lol..

Since I went to broadband a year ago next month those 'hacking' attempts have dropped hugely....but ZA kept on working fine.

I ran XP pro SP2 with ZA 4.5 for nearly 2 years. Only the rebuilt make me upgrade to 5. However 5.1.X is very good but there are still some 'logic' niggles I'd like ironed out! Hopefully this will happen when I upgrade to .033.

Don't just dismiss ZA! Do so at your peril It's a VERY good firewall IMO and fully configurable as you would expect it to be. There may have been issues with earlier releases of V5 but I haven't used them so can't comment. ZA 5.1.X Pro seems to do the job despite the 'logic/doesn't remember' niggles.

However I'm currently trying a hardware firewal from www.smoothwall.org which I haven't got working....yet! It's based on Linux so I'm immediately handicapped

Anyone any ideas on this?

Is ZA compatable with PC-Cillin yet? I like ZA but i like PC-Cillin better and in the past i have had to dump ZA because of its conflicts with my virus program. Also do i even need to use ZA because im behind a router? And is it wise to use both? if they are compatable with each other.

Ditto, I've had great luck with 5.5.x thus far. It seems that only the first versions of 5 were buggy. I went back to the old version when I had trouble then tried upgrading again later and everything worked fine.

Same here.
It seems to have been a temporary thing.

I never got around to installing the 5.5.x version but decided to try it out this weekend (last night). I did a quick double check for any latest versions and the new 6.x is out. I D/L's and installed version 6.0.631.003 and it is working just fine. I like the new features that I've found so far and it appears to be pretty quick compared to my old 4.5.x version. Have to learn the new stuff, though, but seems easy enough to figure out.

I installed 6.x the other day, it's working fine. Looks like 5.x was just a dud.

BAD news - 6.0 caused bluescreens in Win2K whenever I ejected my USB key. Had to reinstall 4.5, and I had to go registry diving to get rid of the remnants of 6.0 before 4.5 would reinstall. Recommendation for 6.0 is withdrawn.

Bluescreen info, for anyone having similar issues is:

It's been working fine with XP on both HD external enclosures and thumb drives for me. I searched a little at ZA's sight, glc, but didn't find anything specific.
