intermittent internet problems
4 networked computer in the house - 1 wired, 3 wireless. All running XP Pro. 2 routers - 1 for the wired computer and the other 3 wireless are on the second router.
My computer is the one with the problem. I have internet access sporadically. Cable modem. Sometimes my connection is fine, other times I might have to try and load a page 7 or 8 times before it'll actually load. No other computers in the house have a problem at all. I am the closest computer to the access point - one of the other computers is at the complete other end of the house and has absolutely no problems. This computer has a D-Link PCI wireless card. I should mention that the problems started when we moved this previously "wired" computer to another room, removed the old network card and added the wireless card. We also upgraded from 98SE to XP Pro at that time. I've removed, uninstalled and reinstalled the card several times with the same result. I've also tried my daughter's USB wireless card, with no improvement, so I'm doubting it's a card problem. I've run virus scans, spybot and ad-aware, all newest updates. Doesn't seem to matter what time of day or night, and whether or not Zone Alarm is running. I've checked and rechecked all the properties for both the network and internet connections that I can think of. My network signal is always either good or very good, but my internet connection just sucks. All other computers in the house are working perfectly, and there are no other network issues - printing and file sharing, etc are working fine. I obviously have something set wrong, but since the connection works sometimes, I can't figure out what to look for. I've cleaned up my temp internet files and cookies. This is very frustrating, I hope someone has some ideas? Hubby is tired of listening to me complain, and he's out of ideas too. I'd love to just move the computer back to the old room and put the old network card back in, but that just isn't an option due to remodeling going on in the house. |

Thanks, glc. I ran the fix. It does seem somewhat better, I may have to only hit refresh 3 or 4 times now. Maybe if I run the fix again it'll get better? lol
If you happen to think of anything else I might try, please let me know. I appreciate your help. Laura |

Try opening a command prompt and typing IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
Try using the D-Link utility instead of the XP "zero configuration" utility to set up the wireless card. You do this by unchecking the box for "Allow Windows to configure this connection" or something like that. |
