Home Page changes to Windows/Secure.html

my homepage keeps changing to Windows/Secure.html

Its a blue screen with white letters talking about spyware

I used spysweeper and it finds things but doesn't help ith this problem.

this happened after I got the trojan "backdoor.jemm". The trojan is gone, I used norton antivirus and trojan hunter. Still I get this homepage Hijack. hijackThis came up with this log.

Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

I have deleted the lines that have Windows/Secure.html in it, but is still comes back. And I dont have any backup thing on. Thers got to be something triggering this. It happens even when Im not online. I have cable, but Im not actually in "IE"
Spysweeper catches it and asks if I want to switch the homepage back, but it doesn't work.

anything else in that log I should be deleting?

When you install spybot go under resident in tools(advanced mode only) and check "tea timer" this will ask you if you want to allow changes to your startpage if some are made

These programs are finding things, but not the solving this problem. The site that statica gave me along with other sites just tell me to delete reg files. But they just come back literally seconds after I exit the reg editor. Here is a log after the scans, but I dont think its any different.

hi xxBAFOWxx

First, create a folder for HijackThis in the root folder of your hard drive so it can make proper backups

example

C:/HJT
C/hijackthis

and unzip hijack this into that folder

------------------------------------------------------

Run hijack this put a check next to these close all browsers and hit fix

Make sure not to miss one

lets try this method:

Download DLLFix from:

http://downloads.subratam.org/dllfix.exe

or

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe

Its a self extracting zip. Just click on it and it will self extract.

IMPORTANT!: Before you run this tool please close ALL running programs and ALL Windows except dllfix.

Open the dllfix folder and click on the start.bat file.

*Note: If your Antivirus is running a scriptblocker, when you run this tool, you will probably recieve an alert warning you that the script is running. "Allow" the script to run.

In the first window hit the 1 key on your keyboard and hit Enter (Again if you get a script warning from your AV "Allow" it to run). This will run Findall and generate an output.txt file. Copy and paste the log from output.txt in your thread

reguarding your trojans they look to mostly in your temp files

go into safe mode
delete what is in this folder

C:\Documents and Settings\xxBAFOWxx\Local Settings\Temp\

and go into your internet options and clear your temp files

while your in safe mode

Run cwshredder , adaware, and spybot while your there

reboot

search for and delete this one more time

WINDOWS/secure.htm

go into your internet options and reset your homepage

then come back and post another log

this one seems to be stubborn one usually this one is gone by now that's what has me stumped but hopfully this will do it

You dont have the service pack for your os I should have realized that from the start this could be one iof the reason for reinfection

CWS installs via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM so just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

OK I fixed it... Finally. as I was deleting temp files it found another trojan. I looked it up and it was what was changing IE stuff. anyway I went to safe mode and ran norton, adaway, spybot, trojan hunter all at the same time. I guess it worked.

Thanks alot for the help, and actulally sticking with me as things didn't work. Have a wink and a smile

You still need to install XP SP1 and all critical updates, or you will just get hit with something else. Windows Update should be in your Start menu, if not, it's under Tools in IE.

Also try spyware guard and spyware blaster
spyware blaster will block spyware from comming in when you surf the net(compatible with IE, mozilla and firefox) and spyware guard is a resident scanner

i strongly recommend these for IE users

and these too these are run one time
untill they need to be updated again
IE hosts http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

The IE hosts file blocks ads, banners, cookies, web bugs, and even most hijackers. This is accomplished by blocking the Server that supplies these little gems.

Example - the following entry 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net blocks all files supplied by the DoubleClick Server to the web page you are viewing. This also prevents the server from tracking your movements. It Now includes most major parasites, hijackers and unwanted Search Engines!
In many cases this can speed the loading of web pages by not having to wait for these ads, banners, hit counters, etc. to load.
This also helps to protect your Privacy by blocking servers that track your viewing habits, known as "click-thru tracking".

IE-SPYAD http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
