I'm looking into getting a Mini-PCI Wi-Fi card for my Emachines M5105 laptop. It's got a free slot for one, but I know nothing about buying one of these. First of all, there are two types of Mini-PCI card slots, each of which are a different size, so if anyone knows where to find out which size an M5105 has, that would be awesome (the Emachines site is worthless). Also, the cards I have looked at so far say that they don't come with an antenna, b/c it should be built into your laptop. Is that something that should be in there that I'm not seeing or is it because of the fact that my laptop didn't come with a wireless card already installed, the antenna wouldn't be there? I appreciate any help you all can give. Thanks.

the mini-pci cards that are available are true OEM products, they are designed to be installed in machines that original manufacturer spec'd them for (as you are finding out with the antenna issue).
My advice is to purchase a PC card LAN adapter, you will find far better support for them than for a mini-pci card that was never intended to go in the machine you have (yes yes eventho there is a slot, emachines more than likely never support this installation/card and as an OEM product you have to go back to the notebook manufacturer) |
