hello guys
i have dsl internet connection at home. every time when i connected to the internet. then i go to command prompt and type ipconfig and the screen always show 2 ip address as follow Ethernet Adapter: Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254..4.175 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: PPP adapter for DSL ISP connection-specific DNS suffix: IP address: 218.102.157.156 subnet mask: 255.255.255.255 default gateway: 218.102.157.156 why there are 2 ip address. what is subnet mask. what does it use for. if i want to set up an ftp which ip address i need to use so my friend can access my files. |

Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ to find your external IP address, the one that the world sees.

edit that post and take out the last part of all the ips. ex: 111.111.111.***

218.102.157.156 is your true IP at the time you ran ipconfig. It will be different every time you reconnect. Your DSL uses PPPoE and your Ethernet IP is just an autoconfiguration IP and is meaningless.
