Get disconnected from internet, and then can't even connect to router

Hi, this really annoying problem has been around, but lately it's been occuring more often this past week or two, and then even more the past couple of days (4-6 times now, maybe more). What happens is basically I get disconnected from the internet all of a sudden, and then I can't seem to get back on, and when I try to enter my router settings (192.168.0.1) my computer can't even connect to it. The only way to get back onto the router and internet is to reboot my computer.

When I lose all connecitivity I also try "ipconfig" in command prompt, and I still get results of my lan ip and all those other numbers... if that helps at all? (I'm a newb to all this.)

Here are my specs:
SBC ISP
Efficient Networks speedstream 5100 modem (came with SBC package)
Netgear RP614v2 router (with firmware updated to newest one)
my computer is using a Netgear FA312 ethernet card
my OS is WinXP

Just now I also tried the "Sync no surf, can't connect to router..." sticky which seems to relate to this problem, and I tried "ftp 127.0.0.1" in command prompt when I lost connection to the internet and router, but didn't get any error messages that were listed as possible results... but instead had my 'c:\>' changed to 'ftp>' with a "> ftp: connect :unknown error number" message. (Again, if this helps?)

edit: Alright, while writing this, I've been DC'ed twice!
