I need suggestions and help please!
I purchased a new fax/scanner/printer/copier today, the Canon MP730. While at CompUSA, I also decided to upgrade from telephone wire networking to Wireless. So I bought a Belkin High-Speed Mode Wirless G Router for my primary desktop, a Belkin Wireless G Network Card for the kids desk top, and a Belkin Wireless G Notebook Network Card for my laptop. So that all computers can access the new printer, I also bought a D-Link Wireless USB Print Server.
I get home and hook it all up. All the LAN Belkin wireless stuff works fine except the print server. I call D-Link, and after a bunch of test and support actions that fail, they say that there is a compatibilty issue with either all the Belkin stuff, or the new printer. I return the D-Link Print Server to CompUSA. The salesman did not completely buy the D-Link story about incompatibility with the printer. He said that all a printer does is read signals and prints. It should not matter to the printer if the signal was sent from the computer via a cable, or from the computer via a wirless connection. So he suggested I try the Linksys unit instead. I almost bought it, but decided to post here first looking for help. Can anyone help me make this thing work? Thanks |

I think what they were trying to tell you is the the D-link stuff and the Belkin stuff don't like each other, it has nothing to do with the printer.
Whenever possible you should avoid mixing wireless brands if you want to avoid possible problems. Theoretically they are all suppose to work together but often they do not. |

I am thinking that the combination type printers and scanners will not work over a lan connection and are designed for it to be connected to one computer only, not networked.

Well I'll try it again today.
On line I found a Belkin G Print Server at another CompUSA. I also confirmed that all 3 of my PCs are networked properly. If it fails to work with the multifunction CanonMP730 printer, I'll try hooking it up to the older Canon S800. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. Wish me luck! |

Well I got it to work!
I guess keeping the components the same (no brainer) was the key. That and making sure that each computer had the printer software and drivers loaded onto it, and that all the machines were on the same network, although I'm not sure if that made a difference. Oh happy day! |
