Network only works one way?!?
I am having a problem networking two computers sharing a common Netgear internet router with a cable modem internet connection. One computer is running XP Home and one is running XP Pro. I have checked all the settings numerous times and can't find any problems with DHCP, Subnets or IP addresses. The router sees both computers and both computers have internet access. I can see all computers from the computer running XP Home but the computer running XP Pro get the following message:
"WORKGROUP" is not accessible. You might not have permission to use network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." Both computers have the same workgroup. I don't know what else to check. |

Would that be the ICF for that nework connection? I disabled this. Is there another firewall somewhere that could be blocking this inadvertently??
I also noticed that in the Shared As dialog box for the root directory, I have used the C$ name to hide it from browsing. However, I can't seem to change this name in the dialog box, to anything other than C. Is this normal?? |

also make sure that the 802.1x authentication (it is part of your NIC card box) is off...it sounds like your nic is looking for an AAA server to allow for access and on a small netowrk like yours you won't have one.

Thanks mbossman2, that seemed to help. I unchecked the 802.1x authentication at both computers and the error message went away...briefly anyway. I could see my computer in network places but still could not see the other. At the other computer, could still see both computers and set up a shared printer. I was concerned that I could not see both computers, but not getting the error message was definite progress. When I got up this morning and started up the computer, the error message was back!! I feel like I'm being haunted by some strange network ghoul! Please help....
Thanks!

I've checked, double checked, and re-checked. But the box is not checked. Do I get points for multiple use of checked?

kdean, have you tried directly using the name of the pc you want to see ? If the PC of which you want to see the shared folders, is called "Godzilla" for example (stupid name, but I can't think of a better name
), you can start Windows Explorer and enter "\\Godzilla" in the address bar, and go directly there if you press enter. Does that too give an error ?
