Remote Desktop Connection
I have a wireless router, with two PCs connected with cat cables, and my laptop which connects wirelessly.
When my laptop is connected to the wireless router my PCs are connect to, my laptop can access the PCs with Remote Desktop by entering username/password. When I try to connect to my PCs on my laptop from another location, I'm unable to connect to the ip addresses. With remote desktop or just connecting in general to get into some folders I have set as shared. How do I go about connecting to these from any location? |

Another location - as in over the Internet? You have to forward ports in your router for remote desktop to the local IP addresses of the machines, and connect to your real IP.

Check out this page for instructions relevant to your router. Basically you have to go into the router's administration (web-browser interface) and forward whatever ports you wish to what PC you wish to forward them to (static IP's are best for this). What version of windows are you using? I am unfamiliar with XP's remote desktop, PCanywhere is a good software for what you're trying to do, but come's at a price.

it's Microsoft's Remote desktop (Mac version) that i'm running on my apple to connect to my PCs at home. The PC is running XP. My laptop is going to be connecting to wireless routers around my school campus, so, being that it won't be a static ip i'm going to have, am I not able to do it?
