How do i set a wireless network ?
hey guys...
im trying to get a wireless network going, but to no avail. this is my setup: ADSL modem is in the other room, connected to a computer in the same room via ethernet, this computer and my dads laptop are usig wireless cards. i went to network connections in control panel and then network wizard, i chose the right options, and to all 3 pc's, and it still doesnt work, went to my network places, and i just dont see the other PC's, plus, now, when i tried doing it again, this PC just gave me an error, very weird... i really wanna network the PC's so i can transfer files over the network, its REALLY important, and whats even more important is the printer sharing aswell, i want my dad to print files from his laptop the printer whos right next to me, via the network, and not copy over files from his laptop to my desktop via a 256 mb stick drive, and then print from this comp. 10x guys, KoMoDo |

I need some clarification here:
1) is there a router in the mix? 2) is there an access point in the mix? are all PC's in the same workgroup and same IP subnet? |

the router is a wireless one, NETGEAR WGR614v4. no access point, unless u count the router both a router and an access point.
yes, i tried calling em MSHOME but that didnt work, so i keep trying different names but it still gives me errors, when i go to network setup wizard i go to Other, and then This computer connects to the Internet directly or through a network hub. Other computers on my network also connect to the Internet directly or through a hub. by the help of Ric, i tried changing the tcp/ip settings of this comp and the laptop, but that still didnt fix the problem (instead of "Obtain an IP Adress automatically" i set their IP addresses to 192.168.0.4 and the desktop to 192.168.0.5, 192.168.0.3 is taken, i guess by the other computer which is connected to the wireless router through an ethernet cable.) 10x for the help, KoMoDo |

wooo!!!
ok guys, i got it working! :-P after a combination of alot of things (my bro and dad chose the first option in the network setup wizard, i chose the one i told u about) and it eventually got fixed, anyways, now im concerned about the zonealarm stuff, i REALLY dont wanna enable SPI firewall in the router's settings again, because it messed up all my network-concerned progs, such as games, software, etc... anyways, i can get zonealarm pro, should i get sygate personal firewall, or what ? im running without a firewall right now, and its either zonealarm pro(ure gonna have to tell me how to enable this option in it :-P) or sygate, if it supports this opton. also, i tried the trial version of pro, and it gave me a hard time, i just installed it over normal ZA and it just messde everything, i had to reinstall it (couldnt visit any website cause it did some auto-locking mechanism thing to keep hackers out if they ever disable ZA) so how can i install pro ? uninstall ZA and then install pro ? or just go sygate ? and if i go sygate, uninstall it ? theres a chance i HAVE uninstalled ZA, but it still messed around, do i have to go safe mode to do this ? plz help me out again guys :-P 10x, KoMoDo |
