Smile Can this be done??

Two computers using the same monitor?

Sure. If the monitor has 2 inputs, connect each PC to one connection, and use the monitor menu to select from which PC the picture should be displayed.

If the monitor has only 1 input, you need something in between. I believe a KVM switch can do that.

There are switches for just video. Most KVMs need the keyboard sharing to get power.

Hi all,

I have a D-Link KVM that I use just for this purpose. Two computers share one monitor, keyboard and mouse. Works great, simple to set up.

Kvm

Its on order...Thanks as always.What is ghosting...I notice that some of the reviews about these kvm talk about Ghosting??

If the video cables are substandard, the monitor can "ghost" - which is faint multiple images - kinda like what you can get on a TV that's running off an antenna instead of a cable or dish.

Question Kvm

Installed Linksys KVM2KIT.Only have 1 problem when pc1 starts it shows boot up and then the video shuts down.I can toggle from pc1 to pc2 PC2 working just fine.PC1 worked fine before installation.PC1 is win98 PC2 is winXP.Could it be any thing with the KVM switch?

Yes. KVM passes signals through but may not handle the identification back from the monitor. So your 98 doesn't see the monitor that it thinks it should and shuts down the video.
You may want to hook it back up as original, then change the monitor in 98 to one of the standard types like SVGA, then try again. May work.

Update...

I hooked up PC1 normal and it loses video right after boot up.Must not be anything with KVM.I will have to figure that out now.Thanks for the help.

Update 2

Found a bad video card was causing problem.Now everthing works great and can switch from 1 computer to the other with the hot keys for the KVM.
