network problem
i tried tech support for this problem but they were about as much help as asking my shoe so i'll ask here
i have a netgear MR814v2 router and comcast cable internet. i got the netgear after my linksys router went out. anyway, i can get the network set up but after anywhere from 15 minutes to 8 hours afterwards, it goes out and the only way i can get it working again is to reset the router and resetup the whole network including power cycling the router and modem. when the connection goes out, it kicks out for the wireless connection too so it's not just my computer. all the lights are lit on the modem and router so i know everything is hooked up right. i checked and made sure that it's on obtain ip address and dns server address automatically. i also know it's not my net connection itself as every time the connection goes out, i can just hook up my computer with an ethernet to the modem, bypassing the router and it works fine. i talked to 2 tech support people and they said call comcast to get a static ip and i did but comcast said they don't do that for home customers and wouldn't give me one. anybody got any ideas? |

after giving you problem much thought, I could only come to the conclusion to suggest that you get a linksys G router, and I belive the problem will go away.
this is just a gut feeling and something I would do, and not based on anything but experience. |

i had a similar problem a few months back using SBC yahoo DSL... it seemed that the day after i changed something on my home network, my internet would just randomly go out, i checked all my configs, etc., and nothing was changed... and in the end it was SBC's problem, something about working on the lines... etc. I would call comcast, tell them your problem, and find out if they're doing anything that would effect the signal. Make sure that they know that you ARE getting service, but it's intermittent. This sounds like an ISP problem

It's not an ISP problem if the modem works fine connected directly to the NIC, which has already been established. It's a router problem, and this is one reason why I won't use Netgear routers.
