Internet Connection......?

I have PC1 and PC2 in my sig networked together through a Linksys WRT54G Router. Under My Network connection Setting for both PCs---I have: Local Area Connection AND Internet Connection. The Internet Connection is apparently to share the Connection THROUGH another PC.

I don't remember it being there the first time I networked these 2 PCs or in the past. I've tried to get rid of it by re-networking these 2 PCs, but it just doesn't want to go away.........

Is this correct? ----or do I need to get rid of it?

TIA

Uninstall the Internet connections. With a router, everything should work through the local area connections.

If you use the XP wizard, the correct way to do it is choose "other" - then "this computer is connected directly to the Internet".

Ok, I haven't had much time to work on this, but I did try somethings on PC2.

I cannot remember HOW to delete/uninstall the connections. I've done it in the past, but go through this every time--Can't remember!

I've run the network wizard and new connection wizard several times hoping maybe the new settings would override......

How the heck do I uninstall my current connection(s) in order to start over?

I've had this right in the past...........

Right click, uninstall or delete (whichever is available).

Ok, That's the Problem: There is no Uninstall anywhere and "Delete" is "grayed-out" and unuseable. The only Delete available is the tool bar and it tells me that I cannot delete the connection (on both the Internet Connection and the LAC).

I have tried everything with the "Other" PC turned on and off. I managed to get rid of the Internet Connection (Gateway) on PC1, but when I rebooted--it was back! Sh*t

I've tried New Connection, Network setup wizard, New connection that then goes to the network setup wizard. I've left Printer File sharing off (was on). I've done "Other" then "This computer connects directly or through a network hub. Other computers on my network also connect to the internet directly or through a hub." And I've tried "This computer connects directly to the Internet. I do not have a network yet."
I've tried every possibility that makes any sense what so ever----and it won't go away.

I upgraded the firmware on my router (Linksys wrt54g) yesterday and about a month ago. I'm NOT using wireless.

Its the same on both PCs and each has its own copy of XP sp2. The only common element that I can think of is the router.

Think I'm going to try setting up each connection with the "other" pc unplugged from the router and see what happens........

Any other thoughts on a fix for this? I pay good money for cable and it really seems to bog down the connection............

****Apparently this Linksys WRT54G Router is forcing me to use the gateway. When I go into the Router Setup>Setup>Advanced Routing>Operating Mode> its defaulted onto Gateway. When I change it to Routing---everything seems fine---I just cannot access the Internet or network. I change it back to Gateway---and everything works again. Guess I'll keep tinkering with it and see if I can't get around it somehow...........

The gateway setting in the router is correct, but you do not want to have a gateway on either PC, that gateway is if you are using ICS.

When I do manage to get it to go away on PC1--I cannot connect to the Internet. I don't think That I have managed to get it to go away on PC2 at all.

I disabled the QoS (Quality of Service) in the Router and my Upload speed went back to normal. I had DMZ Enabled for some reason and disabled it again.

NetBIOS is enabled.

I don't know what to do or try, but the tinkering I did with the router yesterday has really helped............................

How do I check to see if ICS is "Enabled"---add/remove windows components, right?

If so, How do I "Remove" It?

Not with XP - it's the Sharing tab in the properties of the connections.
