Problems with internet connection.
Hi
I have set up a network in my student house so that we can share a internet connection. The network and the net connect work, so you would think all is fine. But.... The internet connection flicks between being on and off every 2-3 mins meaning that messenger is forever signing in and out and downloads freeze etc etc The network is set up as follows It has 8 users based over a 4 storey house sharing a 3mb cable connection. Motorola Cable Modem .........................| .........................| Linksys Cable/DSL Router BEFSR11 .........................| .........................| .................5 Port Switch .........................| ------------------------------------ |..............|................|...............| PC....5 Port Switch.......PC.....5 Port Switch ...............|.................................| --------------------...............------------ |.......|........|........|..............|...............| PC....PC.....PC.......PC............PC.............PC Can you please give us some idea why the internet connection is always going from on to off. Is it a network problem, a problem with the router, the ISP or the PC's themselves. Please help, Cheers From a Poor Student Last edited by student@plymouth; 10-25-2004 at 10:14 AM. |

The first thing I would do is update the router's firmware.
Keep an eye on the lights on the modem. When the connection freezes, are they doing anything different than when it's working fine? |
