USB DSL/ Broadmand Modem ---> Wireless
Hi, recently purchased the beast of a laptop known as the Acer 1714SMi (Wooooo - obviously cant contain myelf). With a built-in 54g WiFi card. Fair enough!
In order to utilise the feature, and to show the laptop off around the house, I want to hook up my exhisting Ntl:Home modem to a wireless router. Unfortunately, I've been having problems with my modem. It supports RJ45 as well as USB, but for some reason the RJ-45 hasn't been working for some time, I therfore use the USB connection into my PC. Is there a 11g wireless router out there that has a USB port for the modem to connect with? Or will I have to spend hours dogging on the phone to Ntl, to get someone out to fix the beast and get my RJ-45 back. *I really dont want to have to run my PC 24/7 as a gateway for a wireless router. Just to get my laptop on the internet. Thank you for all the Help, |

There are no longer any USB routers made - Draytek used to make one, but it was not wireless and it's no longer available. You need to get your modem fixed or use your PC as a gateway (ICS). To do that, you don't need a router, all you need is a wireless NIC for the PC set up in "ad-hoc" mode with the laptop.
