Need wireless network extender
Want stronger home network (802.11g). Want to reach from upstairs to downstairs. What's a good generic range extender (bridge)? Base router is Microsoft MN-700.

I am not sure if the antenna is removeable (which is how a higher gain antenna is connected to the router/access point).

first thing you need to do is find out if your router supports WDS for extending the wireless network (not many routers do at the moment as WDS is not a ratified spec)
If it does support WDS you could try a devise like apple's airport express, not only can it be used as a WDS bridge, it's also a media streaming device and USB print server. You could plug it in your living room to extend the network and stream your music to your home stereo at the same time and share a printer. http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/

Thanks for suggestion, but my router can't even spell WDS.
Was on NewEgg tonight, and came across this: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...122-062&depa=0 -- Netgear Range Extender Kit, Model WGXB102. Should be cheaper than AirPort; just hope range is better.... ps If my job weren't windows-based, I'd be hunting that MAC OS X v10.4 Tiger. |
