When I log onto the Internet through my service provider (BellSouth.net), I open the following file: C:\Documents and Setting\Harry\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
As I am looking at this folder, I see all sorts of files added to this folder !!! Some of these files contain viruses, like the Trojan Horse Downloader.Small.13.N and the Trojan Horse IRC/Backdoor.SdBot.57.AY Question: How can I prevent files from automatically attaching themselves to my Temporary Internet Files folder? (I just purchased Webroot: Spy Sweeper, Windows Washer, Spam Shredder and Pop Up Washer. And, installed these programs on my PC.) I am using Windows XP Home. Please help!!! Thank you. |

The "why" part is that folder is the cache / buffer for IE, and is designed to be the place to store the file which are the Web pages to the sites you visit. Don't know off hand if there is a way to turn it completely off, but if there is, then your surfing experience will most likely go a lot slower.

Don't know about preventing them from getting there but there is a way to empty that folder every time you close IE. Just open IE, go to Tools at the top, Internet Options, Advanced tab and make sure "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" is checked. It's in the Security area.
