Router internet sharing ?
I have a small network with 3 pc's all running XP pro. They are all networked together through a DSL 504 ADSL broadband Router. Everything works ok except if I disconnect one pc from the internet the rest of them lose their connection as well. I think my set up is wrong, all the psc's in the network connections window show a LAN connection as well as an Internet connection icon under the heading Internet gateway. If I display the properties of this it says this allows you to connect to the internet through a shared connection on another computer.
I thought the router did this ? |

you do not want to be useing a gateway, that is what the router is doing
all you want is for the router to asign a private ip address to each computer with dpch.. |

In the details section in network connections if I click on my LAN connection it gives the IP ad and subnet saying these have been assigned by DHCP

Uninstall the gateway connections. You ran the wizard incorrectly. You needed to answer "other" - then "this computer is connected directly to the Internet".

If they won't uninstall, remove everything you can in network connections, reboot, then rerun the wizard as already indicated.

I've fixed it, seems the problem was "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and control" where installed on my system (all 3 pc's) removed this and disabled UPnP in the routers settings and everything is as it should be now. Here is the link to the article where I got the info I think this maybe of help to others with the same problem.
