Angry Fire about:blank

Not sure if I have this problem yet. Hope someone can tell me. I have noticed lately that I am getting Ads when I invoke Internet explorer. I went to internet options and went to Tools > Options > General tab and Use Blank for address and I saw about:blank in the address line.
Can anyone tell me if this should of been an empty line or do I have this about:blank adware problem?

I have used SpyBot sevral times and I am still having problems. Can anyone reccomend a solution for cleaning this up.

Thanks
Steve

The "use blank" button is normal, you're fine just as long as your homepage doesnt set its self to that without you clicking on it. Try adaware SE 1.05 to remove those ads.

Try scanning with Ad-Aware and then try doing a scan with CoolWebShredder...close all web browsers before you run it.

And you might want to consider giving Mozilla's FireFox browser a try too. Less security problems.

Thanks but I have a question to you all.
Is there 1 piece of software that will do it all. Sometimes I feel I am purchasing the software for 30.00 and wondering if I am getting much out of it. Then I get another for 29.00 and maybe they do the same thing... I am just curious. Is there 1 really good piece of software that may do it all even if the price may be hgher?

Thanks

All the utilities mentioned in this thread so far have been freeware...doesn't cost ya a thing.

You might want to try scanning with Spybot: Search and Destroy too.

The good news is most of the spyware/adware removal tools are FREE. The bad news is we have to use the darn things in order to enjoy our computers! Check here first before you invest in software and if anyone has ideas on freeware or shareware, you can save a few bucks.

The about|Blank is a homepage hijack with the cool search virus I would use the cswshredder someone up above suggested then use the microsoft update service pack to make it so it doesnt come back. If you use csw shredder it has prompts to options on how to permenantly fix the problem. Spybot dosn't remove it permenently.

This is NOT the about:blank hijack - this is normal. When you TELL it to use a blank page, that's exactly what you see. It's a hijack when you try to use a real start page and it comes up with about:blank.

If you DO have the hijack, there's a dedicated tool to fix it, called aboutbuster.
