Having a problem accessing internet thru my router.....PLZ HELP!!! =)
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I went out and bought a Wireless-G router 2 days ago and set it up yesterday. I am not currently using the wireless part of it, so i disabled it. The problem i had b4 was when i hooked the router up it would not let me access the internet. I took 3 hours and remembered about how your computer can be identified by your internet company using you MAC Address. I know b4 that to switch my internet from computer to computer b4 i got a router, it would come up with a window saying something like "this computer is not registered to work with this account............." yadda yadda. So i figured it was my mac address. I put the MAC address from my computer, call it compaq, into the router and it worked on the compaq. When i tried to access the internet on my Dell, it was also working. Problem solved. After that i went to bed and when i woke up my brother informed me that while he was on the compaq it suddenly stoped working. However it is still working fine on the Dell, which i am still using and sending this message while still on the network. I was looking at other posts and couldnt find the answer, i was looking at diff posts and i tried to ping 216.239.41.104 which i understand is google. and the ping was successful, so i dont understand why i can ping outside the network, but i can't view the internet. sorry for the long post but was trying to get everything down.... thanks -Roaming_Builder |

ok, well i just tried the internet on the compaq again and it worked, and then stopped working again......so i have no idea what is going on. Could it have something to do with the fact that i copied its MAC address into the router?
could that be causing some kind of interference??? btw the ping is still working Last edited by roaming_builder; 11-03-2004 at 09:14 PM. |

well your brother obviously touched something, most likely the internet settings or proxy settings. in internet explorer, go to tools, internet options and click on connection. click on lan settings and make sure the "automatic detect" is UNchecked, and that the proxy is disabled. try again. also, if that doesnt work, then try getting a diff browser such as mozilla. if mozilla works, then its internet explorers prob.
