Can access the internet but not share files

Hi everyone

I posted on here a couple days ago with a problem trying to access the internet on my 2 computers. I went thru alotta stuff and finally got the internet working on both of them, however now it will not let me acces the other computer, and b4 i started changing stuff it worked fine. I have a dell running win XP and a Compaq running win ME. The only computer that i changed anything on was the compaq. So while i was changing stuff in the networking wizard, maybe i changed something important.

I know this is kind of a vague question but has anyone had this kinda problen before? Or at least does someone know what kind of stuff i can look at to get more information? I am kinda new to networking and made the mistake of assuming it was kinda plug and play...

1) make sure that all PC's are in the same workgroup.
2) make sure that each PC has a unique name.
3) make sure that file sharing is turned on
4) make sure that 802.1x authentication is turned off.

And disable your firewalls - or make sure they are configured to allow filesharing over the lan.
