Exclamation Help Me Pleaaaaase!

I am a college student, desperately trying to get my internet to work. I reloaded my windows xp home edition.. and reformatted the hard drive. I cannot get the internet to come on though. I checked all of the connections, and all of the networking things from the internet options and network connection icons and it says the internet is working. Its showing that I am sending and receiving information, but for some reason my messengers will not work and internet explorer will not load.. Any suggestions? My email is mr_chase_julian@yahoo.com

Are you using dialup or broadband? Is this on a college system or a home system? If you are connected thru a cable/dsl modem, have you tried rebooting the cable modem?

ok i am on a college net work.. i originally started having problems with my computer when i first plugged it into the college ethernet.. I have dsl at home and it worked fine.. Yesterday, I reloaded my windows xp home. I've checked the connection and from all of the internet options and network connections it says that my LAN is connected and active. But it will not let me get onto the internet.. thanks for the quick reply

Try this. Start/run/cmd/ok. When you get the dos type command screen with a c:\ prompt, type: ipconfig/release. When you get the next prompt, type: ipconfig/renew. Type: exit to leave the cmd screen.
