netwok with router and hub problem

ok here's my network :
-1 router with firewall up connected to cable modem, to hub and to 1 pc
-1 16 port hub connected to router and to many pcs
-no server, using windows xp pro on all pcs with firewalls down

and here's my problem :
when transfering files from a pc that is connected to the hubs to any other pcs i get a really low speed. When using the pc that is connected directly to the router i can transfer files just fine to other pcs connected to the hub. That means that the router to hub connection is good but the hub to router or hub to hub isn't working. How can that be possible ?

Also should i plug my router to my hub using a MDI or MDI-X port ?

if your useing a standard hub, thats the problem
you would be better off using a switch

i know that but a hub is all i have...

I think i found my problem all the computers equiped with a marvell gigabit onboard lan are incredibly slow on my hub, while the other pcs seems to work just fine.

Anyone got an idea why my network can't support gigabit nic ? (i'll start a new thread with that )

You really should not have started a new thread. This one is now closed.
