got ip from dhcp server, but won't ping annything

ok i'm posting this in the networking forum, butitmight be a XP problem, i don't know annymore.

annyway, i'm left cleaning other people's mess, and once agian i need help

my parents have a wireless lan , both the router and NIC's are linksys. (the card modelnr. is WPC11.

i know that the router is working perfectly am using it myself right now)
and i know that my dad's card works perfectly (i've tested it in my mom's portable (98SE).

but when i boot up my dad's pc (XPpro - xp firewall is dissabled) with his WiFI card he gets a DHCP licence and an ip adress, so far so good, and when checking the settings next to my port all seems to be ok, but he can not access the internet or ping the router for that matter.
when i use a cable to connect the two it works fine
he does log on to a domain (it's his work-pc) but it was working fine yesterday (and every day before that) last one to use this pc was my sister but she swears she did not change annything

i've tried reinstalling the driver, changing the slot where the card is seated (cause than windows then recognises it as a different card) but so far nothing has anny effect. a friend of mine advised me to turn of the computer for a hour or two and that too has had no effect.

i'm getting quite desperate as to solving this problem, does annyone out there have anny idea??? i will reply to anny question for more info as soon as i can

thanks

Check the computer for spyware, and Google for "winsockxpfix" - try downloading and running it. It fits on a floppy.

thanks for the quick reply glc,

i did both those things but the problem persists (did find a lot of spyware thou, and had to leave the cookies for netbanking)

i did notice however that he will respond if i let him ping himself (192.168.1.104) but not if i ping him from my machine

it is as thou there i NO connection to the lan, exept he has a ip and a licence and the signal strength is "good"

there is a second NIC present (onboard the pc, so i can't remove it ) could this be causing some kind of interference?

It's easy enough to disable the onboard nic in your network connections to test that theory.
