Installing Firefox

My System is Win98SE/IE. I am considering installing Firefox.
The write up says "...imports all your settings..from IE..."
Does this mean it overwrites, or uninstalls, IE; or does Firefox lie "side by side" with IE with an option somewhere to make either the default browser.
Guidance welcomed.

There will be an option for you to make which ever you choose your default. Nothing will be deleted or removed.

Some sites won't work with Firefox so you'll need to occasionally go back to IE. It doesn't happen all that often though and Firefox is well worth the switch.
