problem with wifi DHCP on assigned ip network
hi
i am runnig a network thru the house i and several students live in. this Lan was completely assigened ip-bassed with a s server and gateway running on 192.168.1.1. recetly one of the last studets in the house not connected to the lan (because her room is beyond the reatch of cable) got a wifi ap the proxim RG1000 and a orinoco based Wireless nic from her boyfriend. so he installed it the app on the Lan assigned ip 192.168.1.10 but in the dirrection of the Wifi it serves as a DHCP. both WEP key and MAC-adress filterig are enabled. it's been going ok for a month now but this evening a problem occurd the DHCP of the AP seems to go down. Her pc nore mine (d-link DWL 650+ NIC) are able to obtain a IP-adress. resetig the ap works but only for a few hours but then the problem resurfaces. since resetting the AP solves the problem and sice the problem is universal over oth pc's my guess would be that the AP was the problem. so i tryed to access the AP' config menu but if i enter it's IP (192.168.1.10) in my adress bar it does not take me annywhere. i'm tryin to cotact the boyfried but i can't reatch him. has annyone have idea what could be causing this problem or how i could access the AP's configuration pannel? No idea how to reach the config for the AP, but have you tried static IP's? It sounded in the beginning of your post like all the machines were on static IPs?

exept for the wifi part of the lan everything is on static Ip.
it's like thetr is a small dhcp- island in a larger assigned-ip lan (of course the dhcp server assigns ip's compatible with the assigned part of the lan sorry for the confusion i've figured out i need managing software, i've downloaded and installed it, now all i need is the password, so it commes down to the boyfriend i still would like to know what could be causing this, so i'd have an idea what to look for when i get the pasword, so if you have anny idea Last edited by corosus; 11-30-2004 at 03:28 PM. |

Could check and make sure DHCP is turned off in the router you do have access to. Maybe the password is the same as the default, but I don't know what it'd be for that brand. Could try Username: Admin Pass: Admin or leave password blank, if you haven't. Can you just set static on the wireless nics as well?? at least until you get the PW figured out?
