Wireless Connection Problem
My family have just got wireless set up at home. They got a product called "LiveBox" which their ISP company (Wanadoo) makes. It works fine but in order for my sister's laptop to receive the connection she has to plug in a bulky USB card. She has wifi built into her laptop and the manual says she should be able to use her inbuilt card. But it doesn't pick up any connection. The only thing that seems to pick up the connection is the USB card.
Any suggestions as to how she can ditch the USB card for the inbuilt one? Thanks.

OK, we got it to find a connection with her inbuilt card, but now have nother problem. As soon as it connects to the internet it says "connected, connection : excellent....blah blah". Then immediately disconnects. It then connects again and the cycle continues.
I should also say, it says "connection unavailable" when it disconnects, before finding it again... Why would this be? Last edited by integra; 12-26-2004 at 04:07 PM. |

I would, but i'm not sure exactly what the solution was.
This particular product tried to make you use the USB card and made it very difficult to use your own card. I eventually uninstalled all the software/drivers etc.. that came with the product. I also changed the channel on the router and changed the WEP key. It then managed to pick up the signal and we were away. But in all honesty I think it was just me being dense. I probably typed the WEP key wrong or something! :P |

That sounds very similar to the "2Wire" equipment that some of our DSL providers use. The router has a preconfigured 64 bit WEP key and they only offer USB and PCMCIA matching cards. Yes, you have to get into the router admin to change anything.
